Why we built it
Most coin flip sites look alike and say little about how they work. Several advertise “true random” results while running on a general-purpose pseudorandom generator underneath. We wanted a coin toss that is fair by design, quick to use, and straightforward about the maths behind it.
So the tool sits at the top of the page, ready to flip, and the explanations sit below it for anyone who wants to know why a coin flip works the way it does.
How we keep it fair
Every flip is drawn with crypto.getRandomValues(), the browser’s Web Crypto API,
which uses your operating system’s cryptographic random source. Heads and tails each get exactly
half of the possible values, so neither side is favoured.
Every flip is independent. Results are not weighted, not adjusted based on your history, and not nudged toward an even split.
Getting the facts right
The probability content on the site is based on published research, including the 2023 study by František Bartoš and colleagues of 350,757 real coin flips. When a claim cannot be traced to a source, such as the coin-flip decision trick often credited to Sigmund Freud, we say so rather than repeat it as fact.
If you spot an error, please let us know and we will correct it.
